Management Committee Station Treasurer
Dungeness Lifeboat is very dear to Shirley's heart and she has been involved with the station since 2009, then in August 2011 Shirley was appointed Station Treasurer, where she sits on the Management Committee, a role which she if very proud of and takes it very seriously. Shirley's involvement with the lifeboat prior to her appointment, has been assisting with tea/coffee (and cakes) at various fund raising events and helping Keith with the lifeboat website by attending many of the exercises/events and taking photographs - you can see many of her photos on the website and Shirley still enjoys taking them when she gets the opportunity.
Shirley has lived on Romney Marsh since 1993, starting life on the Marsh in the village of Newchurch, then moving to Greatstone in June 1995 and has no desire to leave. Shirley will tell you that she feels very proud of what Romney Marsh has to offer and promotes the region to visitors when she can - in her own words "I just love it"!
Shirley is married to Keith (who is Dungeness Lifeboat's Webmaster), has one stepson and two grandsons, who manage to keep her fit and active. Shirley has trained and worked in Business Administration, Team Support, Secretarial and Personal Assistant roles throughout her working life and more recently re-trained in accounts. Shirley now works part time in the Accounts Department of a very popular, well known, tourism company, based in Tenterden.
In addition to looking after Keith, Shirley has many hobbies/interests outside of work, listing her main one as: "I just love the Great Outdoors". Shirley also enjoys walking (especially locally and on the beach), cycling (this has increased recently), caravanning in their touring caravan - (she loves taking her turn towing it), driving (she is particularly good at chauffeuring others to/from country pubs throughout Kent), pottering about in the garden, making & decorating cakes, gazing at the stars, photography (especially local scenes, Dungeness Lifeboat pictures and sunsets), cleaning her car and spoiling Keith.
